Regrets Are Worse Than A Bad Hair Day
With warm weather (ahem, really warm weather), comes the need for change. Granted, most individuals buy new clothes to celebrate spring summer, but I’m not most people. With my life in what feels like hyper drive, I needed to do something big. As I walked to my relatively new gig at Fox & Jane this past month in New York City and saw the constant transformations conducted by some of the most talented hair artists in the country, an idea dawned on me...BLONDE.
Let me preface my transformation with an important caveat – I’m a scaredy cat. My confidence isn’t bulletproof. I say this caveat because I often meet individuals who say – “WOW, I wish I could do that.” Well, I’m here to share a secret…just do it (no I wasn’t endorsed by Nike...though I have a killer Nike Dunk sneaker collection). Two years ago, I went from super long hair to super short hair. I was nervous, scared BUT excited. It’s exhilarating to do something you’ve always wanted to do.
Fast forward to two years later and I have ventured into something I have always feared – COLOR.
In the hands of the most capable hair stylist I know (and amazing boss lady) Lorean Cairns (I’ll write about her soon…because yes, she needs her own post), I went from black hair to blonde in a matter of a couple of hours.
How is it?
Well, I still jerk when I see myself in the mirror because well, it’s so different. A few weeks into the new hair, the confusion at mirror is starting to subside. Instead, a feeling of calm is overtaking me – I feel content to step outside my comfort zone to continue developing my own aesthetic. Hell, I’m proud of this transformation because it required courage.
So hello world, blonde Lex is here.
To those afraid to change up your look, I hope this is a small piece of inspiration to go for it. You’re too beautiful (or handsome) to be afraid. Trust me, regrets are worse than a bad hair day.
